The children perform for the President of Kenya.
The children from the Likoni School Choir travelled with Elizabeth, Vice Principal to Meru County on 7th. August, 2012 to take part in National Festivals Choir Competition. This necessitated an overnight journey of 900 kls. The children sang 12 songs, 4 of which took 1st. prize. As the winners they were invited to perform at a concert on 15th August where the chief guest was the Vice President of Kenya who said he appreciated the wonderful voices of the Likoni school children. As a result they were invited to perform for the President of Kenya, Emilio Mwai Kibaki, at the State House on 17th August. They received a standing ovation from the screaming crowd after their performance and were given great coverage on the country’s television stations and newspapers. The President greeted and spoke to the children and posed for photos with them. They also had lunch with him which was a great honour. Elizabeth is so proud of the childrens’ achievement and the Building of Hope would like to pay special tribute to Elizabeth for all her work with the children. She is busy preparing the children for the Christmas CD which will go on sale in Ireland before Christmas. Well done to all concerned
